Is a Junction Box required for a home phone cable splice to comply with electrical code standards?

home phone cable is spliced in the attic. I was wondering if I need to enclose the splice inside a junction box in order for it to comply with the Electrical Code standards. I live in California.

There are fittings made for this type of connection. If you use these fittings, then no box is required.
Reply:Morris has the answer..these are clamp on type connectors, and telephone phone wires are so low voltage they have no fire concerns..they do not put out enough volts nor sparks to ignite anything
Reply:No.
